Intensive in-home family centered services is a service category that has grown
and developed dramatically in the United States over the past twenty years. This service
was initially designed to keep families together that are at risk for one or more of the
family members leaving home as result of their or other family member’s behaviors in the
home or community.
As result of the dramatic need for services that are user friendly and do not require travel
to an office, there are now programs that provide services in the home and community in most
every community. Most are designed to support individuals and families with behavioral or
health problems.
Institute for Family Centered Services model of family centered services involves providing
practical support such as:
- during times of crisis,
- help with ideas and education regarding parenting in unusual or difficult circumstances,
- work with the members of the family to resolve conflict, more effectively meet their
communication or attention needs, or when the tasks of daily living are overwhelming.
Institute for Family Centered Services has provided this service since 1988 and as a result
has developed a method for assisting families with proven success. This model is Family Centered
Treatment®.
